Former cricketer Salim Durani passes away at the age of 88

 
Former Indian cricketer Salim Durani, who was renowned for his attractive appearance, sense of humour, and capacity for hitting big sixes, died at the age of 88. Talented cricketer Salim Durani, who was born in Kabul, Afghanistan, was renowned for his powerful batting and left-arm orthodox bowling. In a five-match Test series in 1961–1962, India defeated England 2-0 thanks in large part to his 29 Test appearances for India. Durani, who claimed eight and ten wickets, respectively, in Calcutta and Madras, played a significant role in India`s triumphs there. Due to his skill with both bat and ball, he was known for his ability to hit the ball out of the park and was regarded as an all-rounder.
 
Durani  played 29 Test matches for India and scored 1,202 runs at an average of 25.04, including one century and seven half-centuries. With the ball, he picked up 75 wickets and his best bowling figure was 6/73 in an inning. He also had a century and seven half-centuries in his career. Once, when he was dropped for a test series, fans chanted slogans like “No Durrani, no Test.” The star cricketer also dabbled in Bollywood, starring opposite renowned actor Praveen Babi in the movie Charitra in 1973.
